Little Dragons

Little Dragons opened in 2003 in a purpose built single story building to accommodate 64 children across 3 nursery rooms. The nursery is conveniently located on the Bath Road in Reading with the town centre only 1.8 miles away.

We accept children aged from 10 months up until 31st August after their 4th birthday. Children are eligible for a school place in a reception class with effect from the September following their 4th birthday. There is a minimum attendance of 2 days per week.

NURSERY ETHOS

The Berkshire Healthcare NHS Nurseries offer high quality care and education, by highly motivated, knowledgeable staffing. The individual needs of children are supported to enable them to reach their full potential.

Our learning environments allow children to explore, initiate their own play and grow as individuals.

The nursery in Reading has a secure entry system with a magnetically sealed front door which releases when commanded or in the event of an emergency evacuation. The nursery has a large garden that has been extended over the years and incorporates a specific baby garden in the centre and a nature garden at one end.

Both the 2 to 3 year and the 3 to school age rooms have outdoor free flow areas enabling the children to access the outside as an extension to the nursery rooms.

In 2005 we became a training nursery helping schools and colleges across the Reading area, this is something we are extremely passionate about and continue to do to this day.

If you would like to enquire regarding the current availability of a place for your child please call the nursery on the telephone number below.

Please note that we only offer attendance of full days.

Little Dragons holds many events - these include annual summer and Christmas Fairs, an Easter coffee morning, book sales, visiting pantomime, visiting farm, portrait photographer, visiting mini beast zoo, children’s carol service, 4 year olds’ graduation celebration to infant school, Children In Need, Comic relief, The Big Toddle and fancy dress days as well as celebrating many different cultural festivals, special days and children’s birthdays.

We have regular parent’s evenings where each child’s Key Person discusses their progress with their parent/s.

We also ask parents and grandparents to come and get involved with the nursery, for example: Reading a story to the children in their home language, coming in to help the children during a cooking session, helping in our nature garden etc.

Little Dragons is a training nursery in Reading for NVQ Level 2 and 3 students, we have a student mentor who supports the staff here on apprenticeships and they have regular visits from their college tutors. We have seen in excess of 25 staff qualify at NVQ Level 3 over the years and have been successful in being awarded Chiltern Training Colleges ‘Employers Award’ on two occasions.

Testimonials

A has had a wonderful time at Little Dragons, she has always been supported by staff and engaged in the lovely environment that is created there. She has made many friends many of which we have seen outside of the nursery. The topics & activities that are covered within the nursery are varied there is a good balance of letting the children lead their own interests and activities whilst supporting them to engage and achieve various outcomes.

I have been really impressed with how the nursery staff; management and room staff respond to feedback and concerns. We haven’t had many reasons to feed back in this way but when we do the responses, actions and feedback have been swift, considerate and appropriate. We have been impressed with the events that the nursery put on, they are well attended by families and staff.

I have been extremely impressed with Louise, she is hands on with the children every morning and then ready to respond to any concerns you have as a parent. When I have raised issues she deals with them immediately and always concludes problems with changes / feedbacks etc. She’s a real asset to the nursery and I’m sure responsible for the lovely environment and start to the day the children have.

Lorna has been a fantastic key worker for A in the blue room. She is genuinely loving towards A and A couldn’t think more highly of her, in fact I sometimes get called Lorna when she’s lost in play. Lorna seems to be very good at implementing appropriate discipline within the blue room and definitely commands a presence that can be missing when she is not in the room. Her feedback each time she is there to me is thorough and provides lots of stimulus for engaging with A about her time at nursery.

I think Little Dragons represents value for money.  It is pretty much on a par with other nurseries cost-wise but we have had such a positive experience that it’s been worth the money in terms of our children’s development and enjoyment. I recommend the nursery to friends and family.

Thank you to all the staff and managers that have looked after A at nursery. Lorna, Leah, Bradley and Michelle as her main key workers have been great and all have contributed to her personality and enjoyment.
