The Berkshire Healthcare NHS Nurseries offer high quality care and education, by highly motivated, knowledgeable staffing. The individual needs of children are supported to enable them to reach their full potential. Our learning environments allow children to explore, initiate their own play and grow as individuals.
Who we are
Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust owns and manages three day nurseries across Berkshire: Jack in the Box (Slough), Kiddies’ Cabin (Maidenhead), and Little Dragons (Reading).
Our permanent staff are employed by Berkshire Healthcare, and we're also supported by Bank Staff from NHS Professionals.
Our mission and values
We are committed to delivering high-quality care and education, supporting each child’s individual needs so they can reach their full potential. Our nurseries foster curiosity, creativity, and confidence, guided by the principles of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Quality Care: Delivered by highly dedicated and motivated staff.
Individual Support: Every child is unique, and we tailor our approach to their needs.
Community: We work closely with parents, families, and NHS specialists.
Inclusivity: We welcome children of all backgrounds and abilities.
Investing in our staff: Our staff attend yearly training and we support career development to allow practitioners to gain additional recognised qualifications
NHS partnership
As part of the NHS, our nurseries benefit from strong partnerships with healthcare professionals, including Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapists, Health Visitors, and Safeguarding experts. These collaborations enrich our learning environments and support children’s development.
Our team
Each nursery is led by a dedicated Nursery Manager, Deputy, and a team of qualified practitioners and apprentices. Our staff hold a range of qualifications, including NVQ Levels 2, 3, 4, and 5, NNEB, and Graduate Practitioner status. All staff undergo enhanced DBS checks and regular training in safeguarding, paediatric first aid, and child development.
Lee Owen-Macleod is the Nursery Area Manager and has worked for the nurseries since 2001 in a variety of roles. Lee holds an NNEB qualification, a Level 4 Childcare Learning and Development, a Foundation Degree in Early years, IOSH (Institute of Safety and Health) and an Assessors qualification.
Lee is passionate about the service the nurseries offer the children, whilst guiding and advising practitioners to ensure high levels of care and education, compliance with regulations and support for families.
